In AppBlock, you can navigate between the pages (screens) by tapping the specific page name/icon in the navigation bar at the bottom. There are currently 4 pages:

  • Blocking – is the main screen where you can create your blocking setup. You can find Quick Block and Schedule blocking here.

  • Strict Mode – a page dedicated to Strict Mode which makes your blocking more strict.

  • Profile  – contains everything else you might need. You can Sign in to the app, manage your Premium, visit the Settings or Help page, and more.

Blocking

Blocking is the first page where you can set up your blockings. You can set up simple Quick Block or Schedules with rules.

  • Quick Block – temporarily blocks access to specific apps with just one tap. Quick Block lets you quickly avoid distractions by preventing the usage of selected apps for a set period.

  • Schedules – you can use rules to automatically block certain apps and websites during specific times, or by other conditions.

  • Schedule templates – if you want to speed up the process of Schedule creation, you can use one of the possible templates with preset options.

Quick Block

Quick Block is a feature that allows you to quickly and temporarily block desired apps and websites without having to create complex rules. It can be started and paused just by tapping one button (Start/Stop) or with the Timer function. 

  • Start/Stop button – you can simply start the blocking by pressing the Start button. The blocking will continue until you press the Stop button again. In a free version, the Quick Block is limited to 4 hours.

  • Timer function in Quick Block – you can have Quick Block active for a specific duration.

Currently, we provide Tiemr presets for:

  • 25 minutes

If none of this satisfies your needs, you can create the desired Timer by clicking the Custom button.

After clicking on the Custom button, you can select your Custom time by moving the dial up or down (scrolling up or down).

When done with setting up the desired Duration, press the “Start” at the top right corner to immediately start blocking.

If you have previously set a Duration, you will see its log in the History section. There, you can select and activate the previous log by pressing the start button in a blue circle.

After the timer runs out, the blocking will stop – or you can disable it earlier by pressing the Stop button.

  • Pomodoro function in Quick Block – you can set Pomodoro blocking for Quick Block, in other ways create a blocking for specific time intervals. You can set up the Focus time (duration), Break (duration), and number of Sessions.

Blocking mode

In Quick Block, you can select between 2 Blocking modes – Blocklist and Allowlist.

  • Blocklist – selected apps, websites or Safari keywords will be blocked.

  • Allowlist – selected apps will be allowed, and everything else will be blocked.

Blocklist

In Blocklist you can select what is going to be blocked. 

  • Apps –  all installed apps will be shown in the list. You can also select a whole category (such as Games or Social), which includes all apps in it.

You can add or edit the selection by pressing the Add button at the bottom of the screen.

If you look at the details of the category by pressing the “>” button or by pressing the category’s name, you might find some websites. Those websites are system suggestions based on your browsing activity in Safari.

If you want to select a specific app/website for blocking, you can tap on the checkbox – a circle – next to the app’s/website’s title or tap on a circle. Selected items should have a circle with a blue background and a white check mark.

If you want to add a whole category, tap on a circle next to the category’s name. The selected category should have a circle with a blue background and a white check mark.

If you want to find a specific application, you can use the Search bar right above the list.

To save the selection, please click on the “Save” button in the top right corner.

If you have already set up the Quick Block before and would like to add/remove apps, please click on the Apps and Edit button.

After editing the list, press the Save button in the top right corner.

Please note that you can select up to 50 different apps/webs, otherwise the blocking might not be working correctly.

  • Websites – in this list, you can select what websites you would like to block.

You can add a website by clicking on the bar at the top of the screen, inputting the desired website, and pressing the “Add” button. Selected items should have a circle with a blue background and a white check mark.

To edit or delete the added website, you can swipe from right to left for the option to appear.

  • Safari keywords – here, you can add keywords that will be blocked on Safari.

To set up Safari keyword blocking, you need to enable AppBlock as “Content Blocked”. To do this follow this path:

System Settings → Safari → Extensions → AppBlock → Allow Extension

Afterward, you will be able to add and manage the keywords. You can add keywords by clicking on the bar at the top of the screen, inputting the desired website, and pressing the Add button. Selected items should have a circle with a blue background and a white check mark.

To edit or delete the added keyword, you can swipe from right to left for the option to appear.

If you have created another setup, you can copy the blocking content from it by pressing the “Copy from” button.

Allowlist

  • In-app purchase blocking  – stops unwanted purchases in games or apps.

  • Adult content blocking – porn sites are automatically detected and blocked in all your browsers.

Selecting blocking conditions will create a rule of when or where you won’t be disturbed. Currently, we provide three blocking conditions:

  • Time – can block apps for specific days and hours. You can for instance block distracting apps every weekday from 9:00 (9 AM) to 16:00 (4 PM) to stay more focused on work or school.

  • Days – In this section, you can select what exact days you would like to have the blocking active. It will be automatically selected on the day you create the Schedule. Selected days will be highlighted by the blue color.

  • Time – Here, you can select what exact time should the blocking be active. You can choose between “All day long” or specific time intervals.

To create a 24-hour (all-day) blocking Schedule, please tap on the switch button next to the “All day long” text. If the option is selected, the switch should be turned blue and all other intervals should be hidden.

To create a specific time interval, click on the “+ Add” button on the left side below the intervals. There, you can select specific From and To times, when the blocking should be active.

To save the selected time for the interval, please click on the “Save” button at the top right corner.

To edit the interval in the list, tap on the clock icon (left side) or on the numbers From – To.

To remove the interval from the list, tap on the red remove icon on the right side.

  • Location – this condition can help you block the apps in a specific area or outside of the area.

To use location schedules, you need to set location access to “Always”

The first location will be automatically set around your location. If you want to select a different area, tap on the map or press the current address, type a new location, and select a result.

You can manage the blocking area/radius, you can use the Radius slider.

  • Inverse radius – if you would like to block everything outside of the selected radius, you can select the Inverse radius. You can turn it on by clicking the switch button. If the option is selected, the switch button will be turned blue.

  • Usage limit – this condition allows you to select specific times and the daily usage limits.

  • Days – in this section, you can select what days you would like to apply the condition to. Selected days will be highlighted by the blue color.

  • Daily usage limit – to set a Daily usage limit, please swipe up/down (scroll up/down) until you meet the desired hours and minutes.

To edit the interval in the list, tap on the clock icon (left side) or on the numbers From – To.

  • Inverse radius – if you would like to block everything outside of the selected radius, you can select the Inverse radius. You can turn it on by clicking the switch button. If the option is selected, the switch button will be turned blue.

  • Apps – all installed apps will show in the list. You can also select a whole category (such as Games or Social) which includes all apps in it.

If you look at the details of the category by pressing the > button or by pressing the category’s name, you might find some websites. Those websites are system suggestions based on your browsing activity in Safar, however, they have no effect on Allowlist blockings.

If you want to select a specific app for blocking, you can tap on the circle next to the app’s title or tap on a circle. Selected items should have a circle with a blue background and a white check mark.

If you want to add a whole category, tap on a circle next to the category’s name. The selected category should have a circle with a blue background and a white check mark.

Icon

To change the Schedule icon, go to Schedule detail and tap on the icon at the top part.

Afterward, you should be able to see a “Select emoji” list where you can choose between numerous emojis. To select and change the icon, please click on the desired emoji and the icon will be automatically updated.

Name

To change the Schedule name, go to Schedule detail and click on the bar with the Schedule name. The default name of created Schedule should be “New schedule”.

 Afterward, you will be able to edit the Schedule name. To clear the current name, you can tap on the Erase (cross) button next to the Schedule name.

To pause or disable the existing Schedule, you can tap on the More (three dots) option at the right side of the Schedule card and select Pause.

You can select your Custom time by moving the dial up or down (scrolling up or down).

When done with setting up the desired time, press the “Pause” at the right top corner to immediately pause the Schedule for the selected time.

If you don’t want to use the Pause option, you can disable it in Settings by switching off the Enable schedule pause option.

Disable – you can completely disable Schedule by selecting the Disable option.

Resume

Please keep in mind that after Disabling your Schedule, you will have to manually start the Schedule if you would like to activate it again. You can do this by tapping on the More (three dots) option at the right side of the Schedule card and selecting Resume.

Delete

Strict Mode

AppBlock → Strict Mode

Strict Mode is a feature that enforces stricter app and website blocking. It prevents you from easily disabling or modifying your blocking setup, protects against uninstalling which ensures the blocks stay in place, and much more. The more options you select, the blocking will be more strict.

Options

Options in Strict Mode allow you to select how exactly you would like to make your blocking more strict. You can access it by tapping on the “OPTIONS” button at the left bottom side of the Strict mode screen.

Here is a list of all possible Strict mode Options:

  • Lock blockings in app – this option is automatically preselected and ensures that you won’t edit, pause, or delete your blockings in AppBlock.

  • Disable app uninstalling – with this option, you won’t be able to uninstall AppBlock.

  • Disable installation of new apps – this feature hides the AppStore, so you cannot install new apps.

  • Prevent time change – this option restricts the option to change time on your device.

The selected option should have the blue switch. When you are done with selecting all wanted options, please tap on the close (cross) button at the top right corner.

Access

Strict Mode can be deactivated only through the method you choose. You can access them by clicking on the “ACCESS” button.

  • Timer – Strict mode will be deactivated after the set time runs out.

You will be able to set a PIN code of length from 4 to 8 digits. Simply press on the numerical keyboard the desired PIN code.

Once you have typed the desired code, press the Confirm button. Afterward, you will have to repeat the same PIN code.

Block screen timeout – Set a timeout before you can close the block screen. Currently, you can choose between 0s, 3s, 5s, 10s, and 15s.

To Save the Block screen timeout selection, press the “Save button”.

Open counter – Shows how many times you’ve tried to open the app.

To save your preferences, click the “Save” button located in the top right corner.

To create your desired Custom Block Screen, press the “Create” button at the top right corner.

In App icon section, you can select desired AppBlock logo color and design.

Notifications

AppBlock → Profile → More → Settings → Notifications

In the Notifications section, you can find notification settings. You can manage your general notifications, Schedule notifications, Quick Block notifications, and Statistics notifications.

Quick Block – contains notification settings for Quick Block.

Timer – Get notified when it’s time to end your Timer Quick Block

Pomodoro – Get notified when it’s time to start and end your Pomodoro session intervals.

Schedules – contains notification settings for Schedules.

Before start – Show notification before a time schedule becomes active.

You can select the desired time in minutes by the scrolling option. When done, don’t forget to hit the Save button to confirm your selection.

After end – Show notification when a schedule stops being active.

Before pause ends – Show notification before the schedule pause ends.

Usage limit – contains notification settings for Usage limits.

Notification before usage limit reached – Shows a reminder notification before usage limit is about to run out and blocking is resumed.
