FAQs

Why is Safari blocking websites before I finish typing a URL?

Safari may block suggested websites before you even complete typing the URL due to its Top Hit functionality. This feature preloads the most relevant website in the background, which can trigger blocking by certain extensions before you manually confirm the site.

How can I prevent Safari from blocking suggested websites?

To stop Safari from preloading and potentially blocking suggested websites, follow these steps:

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Go to Settings (or Preferences on older macOS versions).
  3. Select the Search tab.
  4. Uncheck “Preload Top Hit in the background”.

This will prevent Safari from automatically preloading websites, reducing the chances of premature blocking by browser extensions.
