How Usage limits work on Android
Usage limits let you cap how long you can spend in selected apps and websites — without blocking them completely. Once you reach the limit, AppBlock blocks them for the rest of the period.
How it works
- You create a schedule with a Usage limit condition.
- You set a daily or hourly time budget (for example, 30 minutes for Instagram per day).
- Once you reach that limit, AppBlock blocks the app.
- The limit resets at the Beginning of day (which you can customize).
Daily vs hourly limits
- Daily limit — total time across the whole day (e.g. 30 minutes total per day).
- Hourly limit — time per hour (e.g. 10 minutes per hour, every hour).
You can combine usage limits with time blocking and set up an interval, e.g., 8 am – 5 pm, to limit apps in a specific time window.
Setting your Beginning of day
By default, usage limits reset at midnight. You can change this to better fit your routine:
- Go to Profile → Customize → General → Beginning of day.
- Set the hour when your “day” should reset.
- Tap Save.
Launch count vs Usage limit
If counting time doesn’t fit your goal, try Launch count instead — it limits how many times you can open an app per day or hour, regardless of how long you stay in it.
Tips
- Use one usage limit per app to avoid overlap.
- Combine usage limits with a Time schedule for stronger control.
- If you’re tempted to lift the limit early, lock the schedule or activate Strict Mode.
