Formerly known as “Statistics,” today they are Insights. They help you understand where you lose time, when you are most productive, and how effectively your blocking rules are working.
How Do Insights Work?
We pull app usage data directly from your device. This ensures that the time shown in AppBlock always matches what you see in your system settings (Screen Time / Digital Wellbeing).
- Websites: To measure time spent on the web, we use Accessibility services. This allows us to identify specific URLs within your browser.
- No Double-Counting: To keep your data accurate, time spent on a website (e.g., 10 minutes on Instagram.com via Chrome) isn’t added to the total twice. The main graph shows the browser’s total time, while the web detail is there for your information about specific activities.
- Privacy First: All data is stored only locally on your device. We do not send or back up this data anywhere (if you delete the app or change phones, your history will be lost).
Main Screen: Daily and Weekly Overview
At a glance, you can see how you’re doing today. If you are a Premium user, you also have access to a detailed weekly overview and trends.
1. Graphs and Most Used Apps
Directly below the main graph, you’ll find a list of your most used apps and websites. For browsers, we show the TOP 5 websites that took up most of your time.
2. Habits
- Balance: Shows the percentage of phone use out of your “awake time.” For consistency, this is set to 16 hours a day.
- Peak Time: A visualization of the times of day when you use your phone the most. It’s the perfect foundation for setting up your automated blocking!
- Usage (Categorization): See a breakdown of your time into Distractive, Neutral, and Productive.
3. Focus
- Longest Focus: The longest continuous period spent away from your phone between 7:00 and 22:00 (nighttime is excluded; sleep isn’t “focus”).
- Continuous Use: Your record for the longest time spent in a single app without a break.
- Pickups: How many times you actually picked up and unlocked your phone.
Note: Focus stats include all apps that are NOT in your “Ignore list.” Be aware of Launchers (they can sometimes count toward usage if a notification wakes up the screen).
Trend: Your Progress Over Time (Premium)
The Trend section shows your long-term evolution. Upon a fresh installation, we can retrieve up to 10 days of history on most devices (Samsung, Pixel, etc.), though this may vary by system.
- Weekly Comparison: We automatically compare the current week of the selected period with the first week of that period. For example, if you are looking at a month’s worth of data, it compares the first and last weeks of those 4 weeks.
- Top Time-savers: Apps where your usage has decreased compared to the previous day.
- Top Increase: Apps that are starting to take up more of your time.
Customization (Insights Settings)
In the top-left corner of the Insights section, you’ll find the settings icon (gear), where you can tailor everything to your needs:
- Tracking Toggle: You can turn off app statistics, browsing statistics, or completely hide Incognito windows. Be careful, if you turn off statistics, all your previous usage data will be deleted.
- Excluded Apps (Premium): Don’t want system processes or navigation apps to skew your stats? Add them to the excluded list.
App Feel Check: Here, you can categorize apps as Productive, Neutral, or Distractive. You can then use the filter in the top-right corner of Insights to view, for example, only the time spent in distractive apps.
